Dear friends,

Welcome to the first Seeds of Ngima newsletter.

We are a volunteer-led nonprofit partnering with the Sagrema Foundation and the Wakinga Community Health Centre (WCHC) on Mfangano Island, Kenya. Since opening in 2022, WCHC has treated more than 2,000 patients and has become the island’s only clinic with overnight observation capacity.

This first update shares what has changed recently and where we are focusing next.

More hands for daily care

This spring, WCHC brought on a temporary second nurse at 20,000 KSh (about $154) per month. The additional nurse has already eased pressure on the clinic’s primary nurse and expanded the team’s capacity to care for patients.

Recent funding also supported beds and mattresses for the clinic. A needed door was completed as the team continued improving the maternity ward.

Building maternity care, step by step

The next phase is concrete: one more bed, a vaccine cooler, basic ward equipment, and an outlet canal. Our 2026-2027 roadmap sets a $6,000 goal to complete and equip the maternity ward.

Our immediate fundraising priority is sustaining nursing salaries. From there, we aim to finish the ward so the WCHC team can offer safer, more reliable maternal care close to home.

A partnership shaped locally

Samuel Odoyo and the WCHC team direct day-to-day operations and priorities on Mfangano Island. Seeds of Ngima raises funds and supports plans shaped by the people delivering care in their own community.

Partner with us

A gift of $154 can cover one month of the temporary second nurse’s salary. Gifts of every size support the clinic’s most urgent needs.

With gratitude,

The Seeds of Ngima team
